In reply to Laura. you can use water but the which hazel evaporates quickly making them fizz less and harden better. The mixture fizzed because you used too much moisture. Use less and it bind better the next time.

What does the witch hazel bring to the recipe? Does it help with the binding process? Could it be substituted for water? I just found my mixture fizzed despite my efforts and then the cubes expanded a lot, overflowing the form.

Read about putting a cube in a tea caddy and hanging it from the shower fixture, just out of the water flow, what do you think? That would eliminate fear of a slippery floor

In reply to conni. They aren't firm enough to pack the mixture in tight enough to set properly. Hard molds work best.

why do you not use silicon molds?
