Dog grass that is sold commercially as good for dogs is not good for dogs, they get very hot especially in the Phoenix sun, and they don’t drain well enough or cleanup good enough no matter what is used. Forever lawn is the only one that i have found that does not have the heavy backing on it so it can drain properly and not retain the smell.

Since i don’t have a drain near that area, I changed it up by draining it out into the yard, using the plastic on the bottom so the urine doesn’t seep into ground. No need for the pipe in this kind of installation just angel so water will flow to wear you want it.

Then on top the liner I started with pond rock for the bottom layer, then the smaller river rock, then pea gravel for the top layer, then the dog grass on top. Not sure if that is an over kill, but that was what I came up with.

Thanks for the insight, Ive finally found an exceptional option.

Some blogs will give a list with items/products I’ve never even heard of. Your list shows exactly what I need and what to be looking for in the stores. Also love the “in hindsight” comments that will help us avoid similar mistakes.
P.S. I will also BOLO for item #20🤗. HOW CUTE is Meatball!?!?

Meatball, since so tiny is most likely a Miniature Boston Terrier. We had a girl named Maleficent and she was tiny, but mighty! Most tenacious pup! Please give Lou and Meatball scratches from me!
I am wondering how one drains this with no visible (or possibly no) sewer drain to be found. Love the project and REALLY need to do it for my 3 Wee Beasties, but the only drain I can find in in my garage, and that will not work.
Any advisement will be appreciated!
Thank you!

Drainage water does NOT go into your drinking water system. If you aren’t on a well, and get your water from a water district, the EPA strictly regulates the safety of the water ( unlike the water filtration ads on tv, the amount of lead per pound of water is at least less than 1 to the millionth, I believe it is even less than 1/billionth. It does vary on where you live. In my area, my husband does monthly testing at a bunch of “sample stands” around his district. The samples are sent out to an independent lab for testing).
If your drainage water is collected, it goes to your WASTEWATER district and is sanitized. Sometimes water districts and wastewater districts are two portions of the same agency, but be assured, you aren’t drinking anything gross or unsafe.
However, if you are like us and run on a well system, they should be tested annually by law. Pollutants have to be pretty close to your well to impact it. So for us, we could not do this type of doggy potty system, I wish though! Several years ago our county was called by our next door neighbor on our back neighbor. Their property backs up to our shared well and it’s about 3 feet higher than our property.
They built a horse arena, which drained downhill right to our well. The county made them move it to avoid contaminating our well. Thank goodness!!

Uh, you’re draining raw untreated sewage into our water system. Please don’t.

Yes if going directly to the storm sewer It is the worst thing you can do for the environment and our water quality! Nothing gets treated when goes to the storm sewer (unlike a real toilet) it is direct contamination.

If storm sewer than you are discharging urine and feces into the storm system out in the road.

Was stated that he tied it into a drain pipe to the sewer line. Brilliant!

Hey Muff, I’m in Canada too! We just leave everything in place and clean up the “business” every few days. Resume hosing the area when the ground has thawed again. Stay warm!
